Southwestern Family of Companies’ 3 Core Values are Invest, Inspire, and Impact, with Impact being the most important. At the end of our lives, I don’t think God will care how much money we have in our bank accounts. I do, however, believe that He will allow us to look back on our lives and see all of the people whose lives we have impacted.
Over the past 164 years, Southwestern Family of Companies has positively impacted millions of people’s lives worldwide. We started with publishing Bibles in 1855, and today, we are comprised of 19 family member companies and 11 separate operating divisions within those companies, totaling 30 family member businesses. This summer, we will have almost 1,500 college-aged students with Southwestern Advantage from 25 countries including Kazakhstan, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, the UK, and the United States, positively impacting millions of people by knocking on their doors and helping with their educational needs at home.
Additionally, we are developing mutual understanding and friendships with thousands of people all over the world by inviting them to participate in Cultural Exchanges in America through the efforts of our family member company, Global Education Concepts. We are supporting the public diplomacy efforts of the United States and helping share Southwestern’s principles around the world.
Every day, there are approximately 10,000 salespeople worldwide across our 30 businesses knocking on doors and making phone calls to help fill a need in society and make a positive difference in someone’s life. Regardless of whether the prospect chooses our service, we intentionally focus on being present, caring for the individual, asking genuine questions about their needs, and assisting them in their decision-making process.
I love the word “work” defined as “filling a need in society.” Positive impact on other people’s lives should be the currency we use to measure our success. Continually focusing our efforts on serving other people is the most rewarding work.
